Translation:
Riches are like kingship or bride-price
Comments:
The tradional proverb is symolic and puts emphasis on the beauty but short-livedness of riches. The postproverbial on the contrary shows that the rich are highly respected hence compared to kings or the occasion of receiving bride-price which in essence facilitates the acquisation of wealth. This gives the poor hope that they too have a chance to be rich. Yet, there is a “traditional postproverbial” - gũthĩna no ta gũtahwo [to be poor is like to be dispossessed] demonstrating that no situation is permanent since even the wealthy can be dispossessed
